5 Tips for Creating Professional AI Vocal Covers

Master the art of AI vocal covers with these five expert tips. From choosing the right training data to fine-tuning pitch and voice strength settings.

1. Start with High-Quality Training Data

The single biggest factor in your AI cover quality is the training data. Think of it this way: garbage in, garbage out.

What makes great training data?

  • Isolated vocals — No background music, no instruments
  • Clean recordings — Minimal reverb, echo, or noise
  • Variety — Include different notes, dynamics, and expressions
  • Length — 3-5 minutes is the sweet spot; more isn't always better

Pro Tip: If you only have a full song with the voice you want to clone, use a vocal isolation tool to separate the vocals from the instrumentals before uploading.

2. Understand the Pitch Slider

The pitch slider (-24 to +24) shifts the vocal pitch in semitones. This is crucial when:

  • The original song is in a different key than the cloned voice's comfortable range
  • You want to create a gender-swapped version (try ±12 for an octave shift)
  • The cloned voice sounds strained at certain notes

Rule of thumb: Start at 0 and adjust by ±2-4 semitones if something sounds off.

3. Fine-Tune Voice Strength

The voice strength slider (0.00 to 1.00) controls how aggressively the AI applies the cloned voice characteristics:

| Setting | Effect | | ----------- | --------------------------------------------- | | 0.00 - 0.30 | Very subtle conversion, mostly original voice | | 0.30 - 0.60 | Balanced blend — natural sounding | | 0.60 - 0.80 | Strong conversion — clearly the cloned voice | | 0.80 - 1.00 | Maximum character — may introduce artifacts |

We recommend starting at 0.75 and adjusting from there.

4. Choose the Right Source Song

Not all songs convert equally well. For the best results:

  • Choose songs with clear, prominent vocals
  • Avoid heavily auto-tuned or processed vocals
  • Songs with moderate tempo tend to convert better than very fast ones
  • Solo vocal sections convert better than harmonized parts

5. Use the Back Vocals Feature Wisely

OG Voice's "Add Back Vocals" toggle preserves the original backing vocals and harmonies while only converting the main vocal. This is perfect for:

  • Songs with important harmony parts you want to keep
  • Choir-style arrangements
  • Duets where you only want to change one singer

Mastering AI covers is part art, part science. Don't be afraid to experiment with different settings — every voice and every song combination is unique. The more you practice, the better your instincts will become.
